When Chris Gayle's bat does the talking there is little any bowler in the world can do to stop the 'Gaylestorm'. It isn't for nothing that the West Indian is rated as the best T20 batsman in the world by many experts and fans. Gayle blew away the Delhi Daredevils bowlers with an unbeaten 128 off 62 balls on Thursday that helped Royal Challengers Bangalore post 215/1. A look at the records set by Gayle during that hurricane knock.

# Gayle became the only player to manage 700 runs in an IPL season.

# He also became the only player to manage 600 runs or more in an IPL season twice.

# Only batsman to register three hundreds in the IPL. It was Gayle's third IPL century and first of the season.

# It was Gayle's eighth T20 hundred overall - which includes three in the IPL.

# His 13 sixes during the knock equalled the record for the most sixes in an IPL game. Brendon McCullum had also hammered as many sixes in his innings of 158 for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural IPL season.

# The 13 sixes he hit took his tally of sixes in IPL to 127 - the most in the tournament. Suresh Raina is second with 91.

# Of the 127 sixes that Gayle has hit in IPL, 57 have been smashed in IPL 5.

# The 13 sixes in the innings added to his tally of sixes in T20 overall which is now 279 - 81 more than second placed Kieron Pollard who has 198.

# Gayle put on a 204-run stand for the second wicket with Virat Kohli (73 off 53) - the second highest in the history of IPL. The partnership was only two runs short of the record 206-run stand put on by Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh for Kings XI Punjab against Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 4.

Royal Challengers Bangalore win by 21 runs

  • Kohli: “It was an important game for us, I thought it was a good wicket at the toss and it stayed same throughout. Fair play to Delhi, they batted brilliantly too. It's not every day you get a 200 partnership in T20, it was a special experience and I had the best seat in the house. I hope we can win our next game and take the momentum into the playoffs”
  • Jayawardene: “Chris is in tremendous form and it's tough on a small ground like this, Virat batted very well with him. We thought it was an achievable  total and we batted very well. We rested a few today and tried a few things out in preparation for the playoffs.”
